Grow-out, hatchery conference to be held Sept. 13
OCEAN CITY, Md. The 2006 Delmarva Breeder, Hatchery and Grow-out Conference will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the Holiday Inn.
The annual event is sponsored by University of Delaware, Delaware State University and University of Maryland in cooperation with the Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc. The one-day conference cost is $50, which includes registration fee, refreshments and luncheon.
Topics for the morning general session will include on-farm biosecurity; hurricane and disaster preparedness; avoiding neighbor conflicts; cost share programs, water quality and drinker management; and production trends and new technologies.
In concurrent afternoon sessions, grow-out topics will include energy efficient houses; importance of bird density in tunnel houses; litter and mortality management update; and electrical safeguards to prevent power failure.
The afternoon hatchery session will provide training on sanitation of ventilation systems; steam humidification; managing embryos; and controlling insects and rodents in hatcheries.
